Kicheche Mara Camps is now offering an escorted walking safari with an overnight stay at a Kicheche fly-camp in the bush in the Masai Mara. The excursion is led by one of Kicheche’s senior guides and is escorted by an armed ranger.

It is an outstanding opportunity to see the Mara from a completely different perspective and also offers some welcome exercise whilst on safari. You will explore the smaller aspects of savannah life – birds, grasses, insects – and may even be lucky enough to encounter some larger game en-route.

Upon reaching the Kicheche fly-camp a welcome bush shower awaits you. Follow this up with a cold gin and tonic and dinner under the stars….. the mantra of the cicadas and the eerie whooping of the distant hyena, the groan of a lion interrupts your star gazing as does another course of impossibly good bush cuisine.

You retire to your tent, thinking this is how Selous, Hemingway and Rooselvelt must have safaried….. but you cannot sleep as the tantalizing prospect of a cool morning walk after a piping hot cup of coffee bought to your tent by a Masai is just too exciting.

The Mara, on foot, by vehicle, Kicheche Fly Camp style - it is a reward beyond anyone's deserving.

Walking
The walking will not be strenuous and there will be many stops at various points of interest. The distance covered will be approximately 5 Kilometers out, taking around 3 hours and the same on return the following morning.

Departures
Daily at 1500 Hours. Return the following day at 10 Hours. Bookings should be made in advance to African Spice Safaris. Bookings made whilst at Kicheche will be strictly subject to availability. Each excursion is limited to 6 guests only.

Kicheche Fly-Camp
A lightweight fly-camp, staffed by a cook and a camp hand, will be set up in advance of clients arrival. Tents are of the small dome variety suitable for 2 guests and equipped with camp beds, bedrolls, chairs and a washstand.

Basic bathroom facilities are available (long drop toilet and bush shower). A lightweight mess shelter will be used in the event of rain.
