Kicheche Mara Camp is a classic tented camp hidden in a grove of wild olive and croton trees in a prime wildlife area of the northern Mara plains. The camp is fully hosted and limited to twenty two guests. Kicheche Mara Camp prides itself on offering a friendly and relaxing stay, with our hosts treating you as welcome guests, not mere travel statistics.

To maintain an intimate and relaxed atmosphere at Kicheche Mara Camp, there is a maximum of twenty two guests at any time. Each tent is comfortably furnished with an en-suite bathroom and flushing toilet, low wattage lighting is supplied 24 hours. The majority of the tents are in secluded positions overlooking the plains and nearby hills, while others are closer together for families or friends. Triple and Quad tents (1 double & 2 single beds) are also available. The spacious Kicheche Mara Camp Nyati tent acts as the camp lounge with comfortable seating, a library, board games, cards and local crafts.

Kicheche Mara Camp spacious, fully insect-proof Selous style tents (eleven twins/doubles), equipped with cedar beds, linen, bedside tables, luggage racks and rugs. Bathrooms are en-suite and are equipped with a dresser, shower and flushing toilet and running water. There are canvas directors and deck chairs on the veranda and hammocks slung between nearby trees. Triple tents and family tents (1 double & 2 single beds) are available on request.

Kicheche Mara Camp large and spacious Nyati tent, with its comfortable local furnishings and informative collection of reference books, is a delightful place to relax between game drives or other activities.

Kicheche Mara Camp Cuisine

Kicheche Mara Camp cooks produce delicious and healthy meals, and the menu features both African and international dishes. Fresh produce is flown in regularly and bread and pastries are baked daily. Kicheche Mara Camp has a mess tent for inclement weather, but prefers to take meals al-fresco whenever possible. Guest may sit at the communal table with their hosts, or are welcome to dine alone.

* Children 3 - 11 years: pay 50% of adult rate for accommodation
* Young adults 12-17 years: Accommodation is chargeable at adult rates
* Infants under 3 : Free of Charge, however, please note that the camp is not conducive to infants

* In Masai Mara the Conservancy Fees cover a visit to the National Reserve section once in every 3 night stay. Whether we visit the Reserve or not will depend upon local conditions however there will be no extra charges. Additional visits to the Reserve are chargeable at the prevailing rate. Please note that our camps are in exceptional wildlife areas and there is no need to visit the reserve to view cheetah, lion, leopard, elephant, etc.

* Fly-camping - from Bush Camp only - Single night fly-camping supplement: 80 US Dollars Per Person
* Conservancy Fees of 90 US Dollars Per Adult Per Day and 50 US Dollars per Young adult 12-17 years
* Late Departures: Guests departing in the afternoon will not be charged for an extra lunch however they will be required to vacate their tent by 10am on the day of departure. Showering facilities are available to those departing in the afternoon

Kicheche Mara Camp Game Drives

Kicheche Mara Camp early morning and late afternoon are the most productive hours for game drives and the safari customized 4WD vehicles give guests a perfect view. Watching wildlife at close range, but without encroaching on their space, is endlessly fascinating and our guides' instincts and experience provide superb photo opportunities of wild animals.

Kicheche Mara Camp vehicles are superbly designed for photographers; all our fleet is open-sided with open roofs. Cameras can be rested on the roof, with supplied beanbags, or on the armrests lower down, to which we can mount simple platforms for larger lenses. For complete flexibility it is recommended that you take a vehicle on an exclusive use basis (265 US Dollars per day supplement).

Kicheche Mara Camp Walking Safari

A different perspective is gained through Kicheche Mara Camp escorted walks on the savannah. Safety is paramount when leaving camp on foot so all walks are escorted by an armed ranger. Kicheche Mara Camp interpretive guides will point out the spoor of a leopard, the nest of a rare bird or signs of recent migration activity that would pass unnoticed by the eyes of strangers..

Kicheche Mara Camp Village Visits

Kicheche Mara Camp guests can visit one of the local Masai villages to see first-hand their way of life. A village guide or your Kicheche guide will give you an interpretive talk during your visit. There is sometimes dancing and traditional souvenirs are on sale. There is a charge of 20 US Dollars per person.

Kicheche Mara Camp School Visits

Kicheche's Community Project supports two local schools - Olkimitare Nursery School & Aitong Primary Academy, during term time it is possible to pay a visit to either school. Kicheche Mara Camp Daily Schedules

Rigid daily schedules are not on Kicheche Mara Camp agenda, there are no hard and fast rules at Kicheche so guests can decide on the duration and frequency of their drives. Picnic breakfasts, lunches and sundowners are popular options to include on game drives.
