Enjoy luxurious accommodations

journey. In Samburu, look for the "Special Five"

Chyulu Hills, you can see Mount Kilimanjaro in the

to Kenya’s capital city. An awaiting African
Spice Safari Director accompanies us to the venerable
Fairmont The Norfolk where our rooms are ready and
waiting.

– Samburu Game Reserve
After
breakfast, today you fly to Samburu Game Reserve via
Nairobi. You have the opportunity to see the unique
five. Wildlife found only in the northern frontier
that is, Gerenuk, Grevy’s zebras, Oryx, Reticulated
giraffes and the Somali Ostrich. This is Kenya’s
semi-arid region characterized by vast, open landscape
which also includes dried river beds, red volcanic
soil, rock outcropping, river acacia trees and palm
trees. Your luxury lodge accommodations are along
the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River famous for its big
crocodiles. A game drive is planned for you this afternoon.

Day 4
Samburu
Early
morning game drives are the perfect time to witness
the abundant wildlife awakening for their breakfast.
In addition to elephant, buffalo and rhino, you have
an opportunity to spot some species unique to Kenya's
Northern Frontier District, including the "Special
Five:" reticulated giraffe, thin-striped Grevy's
zebra, majestic beisa oryx, Somali ostrich and the
graceful "giraffe-necked" gerenuk antelope,
which stands on its hind legs to feed. Samburu is
also an excellent photographic area.
Return to your camp for lunch and a brief rest before
setting out on an afternoon game drive.

Samburu
–
Fly to Tsavo West, Chyulu Hills
Board
a private charter flight to the Chyulu Hills (the
Green Hills of Africa of Ernest Hemingway). The Park
is a vast expansion of African savanna with a more
diverse array of habitats which include open plains,
semi desert scrub, woodland, Chyulu Hills and rock
outcrops. It’s famous for the Red Elephants,
Oryx, and Gerenuk among other mammal’s species
and bird life. Other notable features include Mzima
Springs which are water source for Mombasa Town, Shetani
Lava Flow and Ash cones, which is an example of recent
volcanic eruption. Movie the Ghost and the Darkness
was shot here.
Our
accommodations are at Campi Ya Kanzi, on the panoramic
ridge with spectacular views of the giant snow-dome
of Mount Kilimanjaro. The camp is both a beautiful
wildlife-viewing retreat and a pioneering eco-tourism
destination, run in partnership with the local Masai
community.

Day 6
Chyulu
Hills
Two
game drives are scheduled for this day. The extensive
diverse habitats offer ideal area to search for pride
of lions, buffaloes, cheetahs, giraffe, zebras, hippos
and wildebeests. Mzima Spring, underground water seepage
from Chyulu Hills is a good place to watch the hippos.
There is also a wealth and diversity of birds’
species. View the efforts made to preserve the unspoiled
African bush with a visit to the Masai Wilderness
Conservation Trust projects.

Chyulu
Hills –
Fly to Nairobi – Fly to Masai Mara
Your
dream comes true today; as we fly over the Great Rift
Valley to the famous Masai Mara. This is the real
Africa you imagined. It is the home to astonishing
numbers of animals (depending on the season), the
umbrella shaped trees, and the beautiful sun set,
the winding Mara River, the rugged Ololoolo Escarpment.
The next two nights we will be spending in the vast
eco-system of the Mara searching for the big five.
You also have an optional balloon safari or fishing
at Lake Victoria, the largest fresh water lake in
Africa and also the source of River Nile. A splendid
sundowner has been planned for you as you watch the
sun go down the escarpment.

8 & 9

The
next two days are spent on morning and afternoon game
drives. You are woken up by your room steward, with
a steaming cup of Kenyan coffee, tea or a cup of hot
chocolate before you depart for an optional hot air
balloon (depending on the weather). This is a once
in a life time experience.
There
are breath taking views of the winding Mara River
filled with Hippos and Crocodiles and the wild animals
dotting the Mara planes. Once you are up, you won’t
want to come down again, but once you are down Champagne
breakfast awaits for you in the wild. Short game drive
en route back to the camp. This afternoon is left
at your leisure either at the camp or an afternoon
game drive.

Enjoy
a final morning game drive or an optional bush walk

planned.
