Ithumba Camp Tsavo National Park East-Kenya belongs to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and has only four large safari tents, which are covered from makuti roofs.

Ithumba Camp is a 7 hour drive from Nairobi. Ithumba Camp is 98 kilometers from the Kibwezi turn-off and Ikutha Town is 47 kilometers from Kibwezi. The camp is located in isolation between the bush and Acacia trees along the Galana River in Tsavo East National Park. They have an airstrip nearby for private charters.

An open building for meals with a small roof terrace and view into the bush is the heart of this Camp. From here you can spot Dik Dik, Lesser Kudus and other little game and birds which come to the small waterhole! Ithumba Camp is completely fenced because there are many wild elephants around!

As a self-catering camp, most guests book the entire camp as group with a guide and a cook and their own food supplies. More seasoned campers just come on their own.

All the tents connect to open air bathrooms and within a few 100 feet of a large pavilion, attached to a spacious kitchen, where you dine and chill when you are not in the bush. Each has a huge, open air shower area at the rear of the tent as well as a small dressing room. Water is solar heated and light is supplied the same way. To say the camp is remote would be an understatement.

There is literally only one boulder in the whole area that you must climb and stick your arm out in order to get cell reception. Ithumba Camp is also the only camp in the area. An open building for meals with a small roof terrace and view into the bush is the heart of this camp.

In front of the camp you can observe families of dik dik, the lesser kudu and an assortment of small game and birds which use the small waterhole.

Guests can visit the elephant orphans nearby at Ithumba and enjoy even the midday mud-bath and the feeding of the elephant orphans. In order to stay at this camp, guests need to sponsor one of the the Sheldrick orphans. In addition game drives and walks to or swimming in the river are on offer.
