OLERAI HOUSE

There is no better way to arrive in Kenya than to be met at the airport by a private pilot and be flown out across the Great Rift Valley landing thirty minutes later on a beautiful farm in Africa. On the north shore of Lake Naivasha is a hidden jewel, Olerai House, an enchanting flower-covered farmhouse, shaded under tall yellow acacias and watched over in the far distance by an extinct blue volcano, Mount Longonot. Here, you can spend your first Days in Africa, in exotic new surroundings of beauty and peace with all the luxuries of a home.

The owner of Olerai House, Oria Douglas-Hamilton, had the following to say about their history in Africa and magic of Olerai House: As many of our guests have said, "this was the piece of magic needed to get through our itinerary." My parents, Mario and Giselle spent their first year in Africa trekking across the Belgian Congo and hunting elephants. They reached Kenya in 1929, bought a farm and built Sirocco House, their stylish Art Deco Home on the Equator, where I was born and now live. I met my husband, Iain Douglas-Hamilton, in 1969. Together we studied elephant behavior and flew across the vast African wilderness in our small airplane to count elephant populations and provide the data as evidence of the toll from the explosive ivory trade. It was to Olerai, our home, where we returned to find the peace and inspiration to write our books, Among the Elephants and Battle for the Elephants. Today, Olerai has become the in place to go to on arrival in Kenya, where dreams can be fulfilled and where you will be looked after from the moment you arrive. It is the perfect place to get away from the stress of a city life, to have fun, be creative and get fit.
