The Driftwood
Beach Club lies 3 kilometers south of Malindi

It is situated on the beautiful Silversands
beach. The Driftwood recently celebrated its
40th birthday and is an old favorite of Kenya
residents from both Malindi and up country.
The Driftwood has a charm all of its own and,
as it is small and privately owned, the attention
to individual detail and care has always been
maintained.
The Driftwood
Beach Club offers accommodation for 70 guests
in various styles of accommodation.
The rooms are individual air-conditioned bandas,
all en suite (cottages) with thatched roofs
and a small veranda. Every room is comfortably
furnished with large nets over the beds. 9
rooms have a sea view (north beach rooms and
the other rooms (garden view) are set in the
tropical gardens in close proximity to the
swimming pool and the beach.

Beach Club has two luxury directors' cottages
called Lamu and Manda after islands in the
Lamu Archipelago. These cottages are in a
private walled garden and share their own
swimming pool. Each cottage comprises two
large en suite bedrooms with a living room
and veranda overlooking the pool.
There
are three luxury self-catering villas situated
in secluded private premises directly behind
the club, which share the use of a private
swimming pool. Each villa has 2 double air-conditioned
bedrooms with its own kitchen, living room
and verandah overlooking the swimming pool.
Guests can, if they so wish, make full use
of the Driftwood facilities and, if they prefer
not to do their own catering, they may dine
at the Club.

excavations of mosques, Sultan's palace, and
homes for some 2500 people.
• Kipepeo Butterfly Farm: Incorporate
this with a visit to Gedi and the Arabuko-Sokoke
Forest. This is a community project, which
generates income by rearing butterfly pupae,
which are then sold to live exhibits all over
the world.
• The Arabuko-Sokoke Forest: Half an
hour from Malindi, this is the largest tract
of indigenous coastal forest remaining in
East Africa. An excellent place for bird watching.
There are plenty of well-marked tracks through
the forest and a viewpoint, which gives amazing
views out across Mida Creek and the coast.

dhow plies the waters of Mida Creek. Choose

palm. This is where the African bush meets
the Indian Ocean. Beach-combing expeditions
are interspersed with bird watching and boat
trips down the Delta channels. You can either
drive from Malindi to the Delta or fly by

a quick 30 minutes, travelling low over the
coastline. The Lamu Archipelago is a cluster
of low-lying desert-like islands north of
the Tana Delta. Lamu has a complete Swahili
flavor, with lots of Arab influence, narrow
streets and numerous mosques. Donkey's and
carts are the main modes of transport. There
are a variety of hotels and guesthouses either
in Lamu town or further north at Shella where
there are long stretches of deserted beaches.
A daily scheduled air service is operated
from Malindi. You can either fly up for a
day or maybe a couple of nights.

organized from the Driftwood Beach Club to
the Tsavo National Park. Accommodation will
be in tented camps and usually for two or
three nights. All the main species of game
may be seen in Tsavo; Elephants, Buffalo,
Lion, Cheetah, Leopard, Rhino and many different
varieties of antelope. Tsavo is also famous
for it's prolific bird life.
