Hemingways Resort Hotel Executive Suites

Hemingways Resort Hotel Executive Suites are located on the first floor, Green Hills and Key West have been upgraded from Junior Suites to Executive, by providing a separate bedroom with en suite bathroom, and an open plan lounge and dining area.

The rooms have been individually furnished to the highest standard using hand made pieces designed by Armando Tanzini and Charles Tyle, with original paintings by Lisa Dickinson. In a slight departure from the norm at Hemingways, the flooring of the living and bedroom area is to be finished in a dark hardwood, rather than a ceramic tile, thus giving the rooms even more individuality.

Both suites will have satellite television.

As with the refurbishment of all the bathrooms, tiles, marbles and fixtures have all been imported and finished to the highest standards, however in Green Hills and Key West Hemingways Resort Hotel has gone a stage further, incorporating "His & Hers " basins, "Step" in corner baths, Bidets and an Extra large shower.

For those wishing to entertain in their room, a kitchenette / service area has been incorporated, along with a guest cloakroom and shower. A further facility is the optional use of a superior room adjacent with inter-connecting doors to accommodate children or family.

Hemingways Resort Hotel Wining & Dining

Hemingways Resort Hotel offers a wide range of international styles, ranging from sophisticated recipes with delicate sauces to simple cooking of the finest ingredients.

The Hotel obtains farm fresh vegetables and fruits from Kenyan farms at Lake Naivasha and Timau in Nanyuki, with fresh vegetables and flowers flown in on a daily basis, whilst the hotel own fishing boats bring fresh fish for the kitchen daily.

Over the centuries the influences of the trading routes have brought a medley of cooking styles to Africa. Couple these with the best seafood, mangrove crabs, lobster, and fish of all types, and the chefs really have the opportunity to excel.

Hemingways Resort Hotel 'table d’hote' menus are a mixture of international and local favourites, with daily vegetarian options. The Hotel is always happy to offer second portions and to cater for the large appetite or for specific dietary needs.

Buffets are served on Wednesday and Saturday evenings and Sunday Curry Dinner and these include Mongolian, Italian and Indian specialties. Live cooking is a major feature including not only main dishes but also our pasta and salad stations.

During the calmer months (November to March) dinner is served on the terrace, with the sounds of the sea, the light of the moon and the stars, and the rustle of the trade winds in the palms for company. And for those who fish, our Chefs will prepare your catch exactly as you would like it.

You might fancy Japanese style sashimi, finely sliced with soya sauce and wasabi, or maybe blackened Cajun style fillets, or just simply steamed! Whichever way, you will never eat fish fresher than this.

Malindi Town

A visit to Malindi is almost essential; there are some excellent restaurants, such as The Baby Marrow, The Old Man of the Sea, and I Love Pizza as well as the local cash points and banks. Silver Sands beach, to the south along the “Tourist Road”, is still quite nice, but bears no comparison with the beaches in Watamu.

The curio market near the jetty is good and well organized, but a lot of people compete for your attention. Much better to go to the wood-carving cooperative near the police station, and directly opposite the Kindy Bakers.

Several of the shops from Uhuru Gardens and down along Lamu road sell good quality Indian silver and other jewelry and semi-precious stones.

Lamu Town

Founded in the 14th century, Lamu is a delightful stone town with distinctive architecture, carved doors, narrow streets, many mosques and bui bui clad women.

Visits can be arranged. Founded in the 14th century, Lamu is a delightful stone town with distinctive architecture, carved doors, narrow streets, many mosques and bui bui clad women.

Vehicles are not allowed on the island; if you need a lift, try a donkey taxi or a dhow taxi as an alternative to walking!

Hell's Kitchen

If you fancy a bit of an expedition into the back of beyond, this can provide a most interesting morning out. We mean “morning”, because during the heat of the day this place lives up to its name! It is quite a trip – between 1½ and 2 hours, depending on the road.

You will be rewarded by views of a miniature grand canyon with spectacular rock towers and cliff faces. It is well worth hiring one of the local guides to take you down to the bottom and do a bit of exploring. Take a bottle of water with you and take care – the way down can be tricky.

The bottom of the “canyon” is littered with iron nodules, which give a clue as to how the rock formations – really just an eroded hillside – came to be created.

Archaeologists have recently discovered evidence of primitive iron smelting by the Sabaki River, not too far distant. It is not hard to imagine early man collecting these nodules, scraping holes in the hillside to get at more of them, ever deeper, then erosion taking place during the rainy season and the caves collapsing.

Hard upper layers, softer lower layers overlaying the iron stratum, heavy rain every year and “Bingo” – we have our own Grand Canyon.
