Fourteen Falls

Fourteen falls is located about 65 km away from Nairobi off Thika - Garissa Road turning at Makutano junction & 10 km away from the Fourteen Falls Lodge . The falls derive the name from their fourteen successive falls of water along the famous Athi River, border between Thika and Machakos districts.

There is a lot to see and do while in this scenic site – boating, fishing, photography, plant identification and bird watching among other activities.

Ol Doinyo Sabuk Game Reserve

Ol Donyo Sabuk National Park makes for a nice day trip from Nairobi, being located just 65 km from the city.

Today some two hundred and fifty buffalo roam the slopes of Ol Donyo Sabuk National Park solitary mountain. The Parks attraction is its beauty and views of Mounts Kenya and Kilimanjaro; there is game including baboon, colobus, bushbuck, impala, duiker and abundant birdlife for ornithologists.

Elephants are plentiful in the Reserve. Other game includes: buffalo, impala, hippo, baboon, vervet and Sykes monkey, warthog, bushbuck, waterbuck, hartebeest, lesser kudu, jackal. Crocodile are found in the dams and rivers.

Masinga Dam

Masinga Dam is a manmade lake. It produces much of the hydroelectric power used in some parts of Kenya like Mombasa town. It is one the seven folks Tana River projects and it borders Yatta District and Mbeere District. Masinga Dam stretches to up to Thika on the west.

It holds Marine life, Fish, hippo and crocodiles. Much of its fish is supplied to Thika, Embu, Nairobi, Matuu and Masinga towns. Masinga Dam is situated about 150 km's from Nairobi and is along the Thika-Garissa road.

It is one of the dams that supply electricity to the national grid. At the dam there are cottages which you can rent and enjoy the site and also boat rides are available.

One can fish, swim or do some camping. The campsite has all the facilities like hot showers etc.

Ndakaini Dam

Ndakaini Dam, a 70 million cubic metres of fresh water reservoir, lies about 80km north of Nairobi, and 40 km west of Thika town on the slopes of the Aberdares at an altitude of 2040 meters above sea level.

The dam is approximately 60 metres deep, covers a surface area of approximately 3 sq km, has a 1.3 megawatt power generation facility and provides significant opportunities for community investment.

Ndakaini Dam provides water for the town of Nairobi, the surrounding areas are a vital catchment area for the dam

Sagana Fish Farms

Sagana Fish Farm is located in Sagana Township, Kirinyaga District, Central Province, Kenya. Sagana Fish Farm is located 2 kilometers outside of Sagana Township, in Kenya’s Central Province, 105 kilometers Northeast of Nairobi.

Sagana Fish Farm, situated immediately outside the small town of Sagana, covers an area of approximately 50 ha, of which 20 ha is in ponds.

There were originally 60 ponds of various sizes, ranging from 5 m2 to 2 ha in size. Sagana Fish Farm is at 1,230 meters. Mt. Kenya (elevation 5,199 m) lies approximately 58 km to the north.

Sagana Fish Farm facilities include a hatchery , water quality laboratory, poultry unit, zero-grazing unit, and agro-forestry project.

Mwea Irrigation Scheme

Mwea Irrigation Scheme is situated in Kirinyaga district, in Central province of Kenya. The Scheme is about 100 Km South East of Nairobi. Farming in the scheme started in 1956, rice has been the predominant crop in the scheme.

The scheme has a gazetted area of 30,350 acres. A total of 16,000 acres has been developed for paddy production. The rest of Mwea Irrigation Scheme is used for settlement, public utilities, subsistence and horticultural crops farming.
