Crater Lake Camp, Lake Naivasha Facilities and Activities

Crater Lake Camp Naivasha employs its staff from neighboring communities, and leases part of its game sanctuary for sustainable woodlots.

A dedicated team of rangers working in close cooperation with the Kenya Wildlife Service strictly monitors the sanctuary itself. The camp recently established its own community development trust, the Crater Lake Action Network (CLAN), which is raising funds to fence the sanctuary as part of the wildlife corridor around Lake Naivasha

Crater Lake Camp Naivasha is built on the shores of green volcanic lake in the bottom of an old volcanic crater. The Crater is 87 hectares in extent and the lake takes up 14 hectares of this area, rated the ‘Best Tented Camp’ in Kenya and ‘Best Weekend Getaway’, the Crater Lake Lodge has also gained the reputation of being among the most romantic camps in Kenya. It is an exciting two hours drive from the capital city -Nairobi.

The Crater Lake Lodge fits easily into this natural paradise in keeping with its owner’s conservation ethic, the ten tented bandas have been built entirely from their environs, with pillars and stairways of finely-carved acacia set on foundations inlaid with chunks of glinting obsidian.

All meals are served in the main mess tent, and the camp is well known for its great soups, roasts, desserts and generous helpings of everything. At Crater Lake camp you are at peace with nature.

The alkaline lake changes from blue to emerald green and back again with each passing hour, and is the nesting place for a myriad of birds, the fish eagles, busy weavers, cheeky robin chats, ibis, kite, ducks, sun birds, fire finches, and the tiny and colorful cordon bleu. During the day, or game drives at night:

You could see giraffe, eland, bush buck, jackal, baboon, Columbus and velvet monkeys, hyena, warthog, hippos, dik dik, kongoni, duiker, serval, aardvark, badger or even leopard.

Escorted walk safaris and nature walks around the crater or across the plains on to Lake Naivasha are popular. Sundowners at Leopard Rock overlooking The Crater Lake and the camp beyond are very popular.
