THE BIRD WATCHING SAFARIS - KENYA BIRDING SAFARIS
DAY 1: Nairobi-Mount Kenya Serena Tree Hotel
This morning you will depart from Nairobi and head
Northwards through the farmlands of the Kikuyu people
to reach Mount Kenya and Nyeri in time for lunch at
the Outspan Hotel/Aberdare Country Club. In the early
afternoon, you will drive through the forest to your
tree hotel where the night is spent high above the
floodlit waterhole and saltlick. Frequent visitors
to this area include Leopards, Elephants, Rhinos,
Buffalos, and Giant Forest Hogs. You will enjoy the
afternoon and evening watching game from the underground
hide at the lodge. Overnight at Mountain Lodge/The
Ark/Treetops Lodge. Meal Plan {L, D}
DAY 2: Mountain Lodge-Great Rift Valley Lakes
After breakfast depart and drive to Lake Nakuru stopping
en route for a brief look at the magnificent Thomson's
Falls. The drive illustrates a beautiful contrast
between the Rift Valley’s shallow soda lakes,
populated by white Pelicans, Flamingos and other water
birds, and the verdant woodlands; it is a unique experience.
Lunch at Lake Nakuru Lodge, before conducting a ‘Spice’
game drive in this world famous bird sanctuary and
National Park where Sir Peter Scott once described
the sight of flamingos as “the world’s
greatest bird spectacle” Overnight at Lake Nakuru
Lodge. Meal Plan {B, L, D}.
DAY 3: Lake Nakuru-Masai Mara
Our day begins with a drive to the rolling plains
of the Masai Mara in the South West of Kenya. As an
extension of the Serengeti plains, it is here where
the Great Migration of wildebeest and zebra takes
place once a year between the months of August and
October. Also home to the “Big five” the
Masai Mara is considered one of the most exciting
game reserves in Africa. Lunch will be served at your
lodge upon arrival at Mara Sopa Lodge / Mara Simba
Lodge. An afternoon ‘Spice Game drive will be
conducted in the afternoon. Overnight at Mara Sopa
Lodge / Mara Simba Lodge. Meal Plan {B, L, D}
DAY 4: Explore Masai Mara
You awaken each morning to a chorus of birds and,
after breakfast, you are soon out in the reserve doing
just what you came to Africa to do! Find, photograph,
observe and learn about animals. This northern extension
of the Serengeti ecosystem virtually throbs with life;
"The Mara" Savannah's are famous for their
concentration of plains game and predators -- Lion,
Leopard, Cheetah and Hyena. This is where you will
also find the Masai race of Giraffe, the third sub-species
of this magnificent animal that occurs in Kenya.
You return to Sopa Lodge/ Simba Lodge for lunch and
have a couple of hours during the middle of the day
to rest before an afternoon ‘Spice’ game
drive. Morning and afternoon ‘Spice’ game
drives take you to different areas, depending on where
your guide feel you have the best chances of seeing
exceptional wildlife. They may suggest you rise early
and return for a late breakfast, or they may suggest
you take lunch and spend the day away from camp/Lodge.
The order of your Days may differ, but one thing is
guaranteed -- you will see lots of mammals, birds,
and other wildlife. The variety of birdlife in the
Mara is amazing and birders will be delighted identifying
the different species available. Overnight at Mara
Sopa/Simba Lodge. Meal Plan {B, L, D}
