Bethel Christian Guest House Activities

Lord Baden Powell's Grave
Lord Baden-Powell was a writer, founder of the Scout Movement, Chief Scout and lieutenant-general in the British Army. He is buried at St. Paul's Cemetery and his grave is one of Kenya's National Monuments.

His gravestone bears a circle with a dot in the centre, which is the trail sign for "going home", or "I have gone home". When his wife Olave died, her ashes were sent to Kenya and interred beside her husband.

Paxtu Cottage

Paxtu Cottage was the former home of the Scout Movement founder, Lord Baden-Powell. Today the cottage is integrated into the Outspan Hotel buildings and serves as a small Scouting Museum. Baden-Powell died in 1941 and his grave at St. Paul's Cemetery in Nyeri has been declared a national monument.

Mount Kenya

Located just north of the equator about 180km north of Nairobi, Mount Kenya is the second highest mountain at 5199m (17,058ft) in Africa, and one of the most striking. Formed from an extinct volcano over a few million years ago, the rugged Mount Kenya features 12 permanent glaciers, which are unfortunately rapidly receding.

The mountain is located within the Mount Kenya National Park, which covers an area about 700 square kilometers in size. The highest peaks of the mountain are: Batian (5199 meters), Nelion (5188 meters), and Lenana (4985 meters).
