Ol
Pejeta Sweetwaters Conservancy — Samburu —
Lake Nakuru — Masai Mara — Nairobi 9 Days
/ 8 Nights Kenya Safari
This exciting 9 Days
& 8 Night Safari is a delightful journey for travelers
with limited time away from home yet who desire an
in-depth safari experience. Devoted exclusively to
Kenya, in less than two weeks we touch upon nearly
all of the region's highlights:-
Ol Pejeta
Sweetwaters Conservancy, Samburu, Lake Nakuru and
Maasai Mara, while enjoying
exceptional wildlife throughout. African safari is
about the animals…thundering herds, thousands
of creatures on the plains, in the craters and in
the jungle.
All of Africa pulses
with the sights and sounds of the last true paradise
left on earth. But sometimes there can be more to
a safari than just wildlife. On that rare and wonderful
occasion, there can be splendor and elegance beyond
your wildest imagination. Below we provide details
of this programme and the tale of our inspiration
for this exquisite journey.
Day
1
Nairobi —
Sweetwaters
Game Sanctuary
After breakfast, we travel overland
to the Sweetwaters game reserve and chimpanzee sanctuary.
This 70,000-acre private preserve has views of the
peaks of Mount Kenya and offers game drives into countryside
many travelers never see. We check into our tented
camp or Lodge where we stay for the next two nights.
We have lunch in camp. Sweetwaters land, the Ol Pejeta
Conservancy and its sumptuous ranch were once the
private domain of famed multi-millionaire, Adnan Kashoggi.
This afternoon game drive takes us to the Chimpanzee
Sanctuary, a charming haven established by the Jane
Goodall Institute to provide sanctuary to orphaned
chimps, and the specially protected and fenced refuge
of black rhino with its stunning forty specimens!
In fact Sweetwaters boasts excellent game viewing
with the highest ratio of game to area of any park
or reserve in Kenya. Moreover, the camp has its own
private waterhole and saltlick so we'll be guaranteed
unprecedented close encounters. Whether its day or
night game drives, camel trekking, lion tracking,
al fresco dining or relaxing by pool, Sweetwaters
is bound to delight.

Day
3
Sweetwaters — Samburu Game Reserve
This morning we travel by road to Kenya's
northern frontier. Wild and rugged, Samburu is fiercely
beautiful with its arid savannahs watered by the lovely
Uaso Nyiro River. It is also one of Kenya's most protected
areas and home to species only found north of the
equator, from the reticulated giraffe to Grevy's zebras
and Beisa oryxes. We also enjoy Larsens Tented Camp
or Samburu Intrepids, our luxurious hostelry set beneath
a canopy of acacia trees along the banks of the river.

Day
4
Samburu Game Reserve
Dawn breaks in golden
bands as we start our day in the bush by scanning
the river from our tent's veranda with a cup of steaming
coffee in hand. Before the dew is off the grass, we're
off in pursuit of the elephants, lions, leopards,
and cheetahs that thrive in the reserve's grasslands
and acacia woodlands. And so the day is spent in alternating
pursuits of exploration in the bush and relaxation
in our cozy camp or Lodge.

Samburu Game Reserve — Lake Nakuru
National Park
Depart Samburu
after breakfast .Our destination today is Lake Nakuru
National Park. We stop for lunch at an upscale restaurant
in Nairobi and reach the Park in time for an afternoon
game drive, on which we can expect to see buffalo,
rhino, giraffe, zebra, antelope and the lions that
prey on them as well as vast flocks of flamingos clustered
near the lake shore. Lake Nakuru is famous for having
the highest concentration of flamingos in the world
and is home to over three hundred bird species. It
is a sanctuary for both the Black and White Rhinos.
Also found in plenty are zebras, waterbucks, buffaloes
and warthogs. Leopards are sometimes seen sleeping
on the horizontal branches of the 'Fever trees'. Supper
is at our lodge overlooking the lake.

Travel through the Maasai country occasionally coming
across Maasai herdsmen with their livestock living
harmoniously with the wildlife. After lunch at your
residence lodge another game run is planned in these
vast rolling grasslands. Here we find the Old Africa
of the movies, with rolling grasslands dotted by acacia
trees and sweeping plains teeming with Wildlife. No
matter how much you have thought about Africa, this
is more than you expected, and the ideal backdrop
for a hot air balloon expedition. During our stay
we also visit a village of the Maasai people to witness
the singing and dancing that are part of their daily
lives and sacred rituals. A glimpse into their homes
and social structure is a poignant experience.

Day 7 &
Day 8
Masai Mara
The next two days we enjoy morning and afternoon 'Spice'
game drives in this magnificent Park. Maasai Mara
is famous for the Annual Wildebeest Migration that
takes place between the months of July and October.
During this time over a million wildebeests accompanied
by thousands of other herbivores, migrate from Serengeti
National Park to the Mara in search for greener pastures.
Hundreds of lions and hyenas follow them picking on
the old and weaker ones. The legendary black mane
lion is only found in Maasai Mara. The cheetah hunts
best in these open grasslands.
