1
Arusha
– Miriakamba Hut
African Spice Safari driver will pick you up from
your hotel in Arusha and drive you to Arusha National
Park, Momella Gate - about 1.5 hours drive. After
completion of administrative formalities and meeting
with the guide, porters and ranger, you will begin
the 4 to 5 hour trek to Miriakamba Hut, through the
crater floor. This gentle uphill trek takes you through
thick woodland, past the giant fig tree arch up to
the Itikoni clearing where you will most likely find
buffalo grazing.
Cross
a large stream just above the Maio waterfalls, and
take a steep path up the crater rim wall to Miriakamba.
You may encounter elephant along the way; therefore
an armed ranger will escort you with every step. Have
dinner then retire for the night at Miriakamba Hut.

Miriakamba
Hut – Saddle Hut
After breakfast leave for Miriakamba Hut through a
mix of trees and pleasant glades up to Mgongo wa Tembo
(elephant ridge). Enjoy a clear view of Meru crater
and the cliffs below the summit. A pass between the
slopes of Meru and the peak of Little Meru will lead
you to Saddle Hut. This will take you 2-3 hours. There
is an optional 1 to 1.5 hour round trip hike to the
summit of Little Meru, from the Saddle Hut.

Hut – Summit Hut
Rise as early as 1:00am and after half an hour begin
hiking. Ascend for 4-5 hours along a narrow ridge. Continue
through sheer cliffs and the sloping outer wall will
see you to the summit. The walk is challenging and strenuous.
Marvel at the breathtaking view of sunrise over Kilimanjaro.
Descend to Saddle Hut for dinner and overnight.

Summit
Hut – Momella Gate – Arusha
Have breakfast after which you will continue your descent
down the ridge to Miriakamba. Proceed through open mountain
meadows and wooded streams directly to the Momella Gate.
You will be met by your driver who will transfer you
to your hotel in Arusha for some rest. The total trekking
time this day is from 10 to 13 hours. Transfer to your
hotel in Arusha.
