Queen Elizabeth National Park

Spend 4 glorious days on safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda’s premier game viewing destination, located 5 to 6 hours by road (376 km/ 234 miles) southwest of Kampala. The park’s famous tree-climbing Lions are its undisputed wildlife stars and also expect to see Elephants, hippos, Crocodiles, Buffalo, and plenty of Antelope species.

Beginning and ending in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, you travel west to Kasese, via the town of Fort Portal. We stop for lunch in Kasese admiring the beautiful slopes of Mount Rwenzori. After lunch, we continue our journey through the scenic landscapes of Uganda to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

In the evening we embark on a game drive in the savannah plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park that support a rich variety of wild animals including four of the Big Five – Buffaloes, Elephants, Leopards, and Lions. Other animals include Ugandan Kob, Sitatunga, Topi, Kob, Waterbuck, Bushbuck, Giant Forest Hog, Warthogs, side-striped Jackal, Serval Cat, and Spotted Hyena.

On day two, we set off for a game drive in the Northern crater area. You may be able to see a lot of animals such as Elephants, Lions, Buffaloes, Leopards, Monkeys such as the black and white colobus, and red-tailed and blue monkeys. In the afternoon go for an evening game drive in the Kasenyi area which is well known as the Kob mating grounds therefore in this place one can see a lot of Kobs and other Antelopes like the sitatunga, and Hyenas.

On day three, we go to Kyambura (Chambura) Gorge for Chimpanzee Tracking. The gorge is part of the giant Rift Valley, the place where you will meet your chimpanzee group. The chimpanzees move daily building new nests each day. The chimpanzees are habituated, meaning that they are used to human beings.

You will spot Buffaloes, Waterbucks, Warthogs, Lions, Uganda Kobs, other animals, and a variety of birds as you track the Chimpanzees. Over 95 species of mammals and 600 species of birds have been recorded. Later proceed to the Katunguru trading centre where there are different ethnic groups for cultural performances.

On our evening game drive, we visit the Ishasha sector which is in the southern part of the Park. The Ishasha sector is well known for the tree-climbing Lions which can be spotted from the far in the fig trees. An alternative activity that one could take is a jungle walk/ guided forest nature walks in the extensive Maramaganbo forest where one could see the bat cave with pythons.

On day four, we go for a two-hour boat cruise on the Kazinga channel getting up close to Hippos, Buffalos, Elephants, and other wildlife. The boat trip offers excellent bird-watching opportunities. The banks of the channel are home to a rich variety of birds, including pink-backed pelicans, pied and malachite kingfishers, and saddle-billed stork. 

Later we return to Kampala. You will have a lunch break in Fort Portal. Arrive back in Kampala and Entebbe in time to catch onward flights, bringing this Uganda 4 Days 3 Nights Queen Elizabeth National Park Safari Adventure to a close.

The tree climbing lions of Queen Elizabeth National Park: Ishasha sector in the south part of the well-known Queen Elizabeth National Park within Uganda climb trees as one of their day after day behavior.

Chimpanzee trekking in Queen Elizabeth National Park: A perfect place to enjoy chimpanzee tracking/ trekking done within the Kyambura Gorge where there are several habituated Chimpanzees.

Other animals include Uganda-kobs, topi, waterbucks, bushbucks, reedbucks, duiker, mongoose, swamp antelopes, spotted hyena, warthog, forest hog, and in difficult routes in the south.

Day 1: Kampala – Drive to Elizabeth National Park

0630 Hours: Depart your hotel in Kampala for Queen Elizabeth Park located in western Uganda. Drive through the Ugandan countryside enjoying the scenery.

1300 Hours: You arrive in time for lunch at Mbarara town at Hotel Zebra then proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park. As you get into the park headquarters at Mweya you will have great views of Rwenzori Mountain, Crater Lakes, the Rift Valley, and wildlife.

In the late afternoon, it is time for your first game drive with our professional safari driver guide who will reveal the wonders of this great park and answer any questions you might have. Some of the animals you might see include tree-climbing lions, elephants, buffaloes, Kobs, bushbucks, waterbucks, warthogs, and leopards. Dinner and Overnight.

Day 2: Explore Elizabeth National Park

Day 3: Discover Elizabeth National Park

0730 Hours: Your day starts with breakfast then followed by Kyambura Gorge Chimpanzee Tracking. The gorge is part of the giant Rift Valley, the place where you will meet your chimpanzee group.

The chimpanzees move daily building new nests each day. The chimpanzees are habituated, meaning that they are used to human beings. You will spot buffaloes, waterbucks, warthogs, lions, Uganda kobs, and other animals and a variety of birds as you track the chimpanzees.

Day 4: Elizabeth National Park – Drive to Kampala

Go for a morning boat cruise on the Kazinga channel. You may have a chance to see a lot of crocodiles along the channel’s bank sides, a lot of Hippopotamus, Elephants taking water, and a lot of bird species at the pelican point.

Return for breakfast at the lodge and transfer back to Kampala. You will have a lunch break in Fort Portal.
