Our 2 Days 1 Night Sipi waterfalls trek is a short hiking holiday for one night to Sipi waterfalls. Sipi falls is a series of 3 waterfalls in Eastern Uganda in the district of Kapchorwa, northeast of Sironko and Mbale.

These falls offer great opportunities to hike, experience cultural activities, and do extreme sports such as tandem paragliding, rock climbing, and abseiling! It’s a great place to spend 2 days unwind in and exploring the incredible four waterfall falls that make up the Sipi waterfalls.

This exciting hiking adventure begins from Kampala/ Entebbe and the drive takes you east to the town of Mbale and on to Sipi Falls (a 6-hour journey). In the afternoon you could take a 2-hour coffee tour to learn all the stages of coffee production right from planting, weeding, pruning, harvesting, drying, roasting, grinding, and packing.

You will be given an opportunity to taste the freshly prepared coffee tea at the farm.

On Day 2 in the company of a local guide/ escort, you proceed for a hiking tour where you begin at the topmost waterfall, descending to the bottom waterfalls which is also the main Sipi Waterfall. The waterfalls measure 85 meters, 75 meters, and 100 meters respectively.

The entire hike will take close to 4 hours or less depending on the level of your fitness. However, given that you are descending for most of the hike, even first-timer hikers can complete the hike within 4 hours.  Alternatively, you can choose to leave out one of the waterfalls when you feel the fatigue getting to you.

During the hiking, you will be able to view the beautiful sceneries of Mount Elgon and the plains. Later return to your accommodation, to the lodge for lunch, and thereafter embark on the return trip to Kampala, arriving late afternoon. Sipi Waterfalls is home to a series of three spectacular waterfalls, some of the best Arabica coffee in the world, world-class mountain biking, and beautiful sunsets!

The falls sit just outside Mount Elgon National Park which is the home of an incredible number of bird species as well as being the largest volcanic base in the world. Mt Elgon is said to be the 4th highest peak in Africa and is shared between Eastern Uganda and Western Kenya.

Sipi falls is a place to enjoy the challenges of the mountains, and also a place just to relax and unwind in a cool peaceful climate. Sipi waterfalls area offers a variety of activities including Mt Elgon day hikes, archery, bird watching, trekking, coffee tours, hiking, rock climbing/ abseiling, mountain biking, and trout fishing.

Day 1: Jinja/ Kampala or Entebbe – Drive to Sipi Falls, Uganda

0600 Hours: Depart from Kampala driving eastwards about 276 Kilometers to Mbale town where we shall have our lunch.

1200 Hours: After lunch, you will drive another 1 ½ hours to our accommodation near the Romantic Sipi falls. The afternoon is left for you to decide on what to do. You could take a 2-hour coffee tour to see how coffee is processed (picked, dried, roasted, and also do a coffee tasting). Then return to the lodge.

1800 Hours: Enjoy the cool breeze and have the best of your scenic moments as you watch the sun go down. Check-in at your accommodation for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Viewing of Sipi Falls – Drive to Jinja/ Kampala or Entebbe

0700 Hours: Enjoy breakfast at the lodge then begin your hike following a trail that is 8 km’s long taking you through the local communities and farms of tea and banana plantations, which are the main crops grown in this area.

After visiting each waterfall you are treated to breathtaking landscape scenery, from the green slopes of Mountain Elgon to the distant flat plains of Karamoja in the distance. Each of the 3 waterfalls offers an experience different from another, from the plunge, beautiful views, caves, to rainbows.

The entire hike will take about 4 hours, visiting the first waterfall from the top and descending down to the second and finally to the third at the end of the trail which is the biggest and main one. It is has a large whirlpool which you can dive in for a swim in the cold water.

Alternatively, you can choose to leave out one of the waterfalls when you feel the fatigue getting to you.

1400 Hours: Drive to Kampala with a picnic lunch on the way.

1900 Hours: Arrive late in the afternoon.
