Queen Elizabeth National Park

This 2 day Queen Elizabeth National Park Safari is a short wildlife holiday to Queen Elizabeth National Park located in the southwest of Uganda for a boat trip on the Kazinga Channel and game viewing in Uganda’s top national park.

The park is one of the outstanding treasures of Uganda and was named after Queen Elizabeth II visit in 1954. Distance & Time Estimates: 435 kilometers southwest of Kampala (6-hour drive).

Our 2 day Uganda Safari adventure departs from Kampala or Entebbe to Queen Elizabeth National Park. We stop for lunch in Kasese admiring the beautiful slopes of Mount Rwenzori. After lunch, we continue our journey through the scenic landscapes of Uganda to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

In the evening we embark on a two-hour boat trip on the Kazinga Channel, getting up close to hippos, buffalos, and other wildlife. The boat trip offers excellent bird-watching opportunities, as well as the chance to see Elephants, Warthogs, and Kob Antelopes.

The banks of the channel are home to a rich variety of birds, including Pink-backed Pelicans, Pied and Malachite Kingfishers, and Saddle-billed Stork.

On day two, we set off on an early morning game drive in Queen Elizabeth Park, exploring the northeastern area along Kasenyi Plains (also known as Mweya), near Lake George, and the Queens Mile. Wildlife sightings include the Uganda Kob Antelope, Elephants, Lions, Buffalo, Waterbuck,  Topi, Warthogs, as well as the giant forest hog and various other antelope and bird species.

Queen Elizabeth has over 95 mammals including 10 primate species (Chimpanzees, Vervet, Blue, Red-tailed, L’Hoest Monkey, Colobus, Baboons), up to 20 predators (Lion, Leopard, Spotted Hyena, etc), Antelopes, Buffaloes, Hippos, and Elephants.

More than 610 bird species (probably the highest total for any national park in Africa, if not the world. In addition to 54 raptors, the checklist includes virtually every waterbird species of Uganda, a variety of woodland and forest species.

After the game drive, we return to the lodge for breakfast and transfer back to Kampala or Entebbe where our 2 Days Queen Elizabeth National Park Safari Uganda comes to an end.

Safari Itinerary in Detail

Day 1: Kampala – Drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Depart from Kampala heading southwest across the country, through Mbarara town, the home to the impressive long horn Ankole cattle. On the way see the royal drum makers, stand on the Equator, a bargain at the roadside markets.

Descend to Queen Elizabeth National Park, keeping an eye out for the game. A short game drive along the Channel track welcomes you into this park as we proceed for check-in at your lodge.

The Channel track runs parallel with the Kazinga channel as you drive slowly towards the Katunguru gate. It’s particularly rewarding with Warthog, Bushbuck, Waterbuck, and Elephants.

Depending on the time, you may enjoy a safari game drive in the northern sector of the park, the Baboon Cliff famous for its nice scenery, and good views of the shadows of the mountains of the moon – the Rwenzoris.

Afterward, you drive back to your lodge through large expanses of savannah grasslands as you spot some wildlife en route.
