Detailed Itinerary

Experience some of the most exclusive small bush homes lodges and permanent tented camps in East Africa while visiting Tsavo, Laikipia and the Masai Mara. The game viewing on this private safari is superb-unspoiled African bush with an incredible array of wildlife. You’ll be able to experience the best of the Kenyan wilderness with knowledgeable and conscientious guides in luxurious, yet rustic style. A truly memorable begining to any marriage and a trip of a lifetime for non-newlyweds.

Day 1
Nairobi, Kenya Arrival

Today you arrive in Nairobi at Jomo Kenyatta international Airport (JKIA). After clearing customs and immigration you will be met by our safari representative and transferred to your Nairobi Hotel. Ngong House is located on 10 acres of private land about 20 minutes from downtown Nairobi. Each of the 4 double rooms is built up on stilts (tree house style) with stunning view of the Ngong Hills. The rooms are the most luxurious in Nairobi, tastefully done, artistic, yet natural and with a sense of Africa. There is a swimming pool for a lazy afternoon, or you can request for a city tour of Nairobi. The food is constantly raved about… altogether a very nice beginning to your safari experience.

Day 2

Nairobi – Tsavo Chyulu Hills
After lunch we transfer to Wilson airport for a scheduled flight to Tsavo West National Park. Once at Tsavo, you will be met and start a game drive en-route south towards Kilimanjaro into the magnificent Chyulu Hills on the southern border of Tsavo West National Park. Your accommodation for the next three nights is at campi ya kanzi, a small and luxurious permanent tented camp (only 6 tents) in an unspoiled wilderness. The tents are huge with wooden floors and each with an en-suite bathroom, hot and cold running water and flush toilets. The camp is tastefully appointed using locally available materials, and is very eco-friendly (solar power, conscientious use of natural resources etc). The area offers incredible views of Kilimanjaro, and you will have game drives into Tsavo West national Park (famed for its ‘red’ elephants and of course the legendary “man-eaters”) or on the Maasai tribal lands which serve as a nature conservancy. You can also go for guided nature walks with Maasai guides who still live their traditional lifestyle. You’ll wish you had a week here.

Day 3 & 4

Tsavo Chyulu Hills
The next two days are spent exploring the area and view wildlife on game drives or by foot…walking safari....you’ll plan your day with the hosts and owners of the camp, Luca and Antonella Bonomi (they also supervise the Italian cuisine). Animals likely to see include leopard, cheetah, buffalo, rhino, elephant, giraffe, zebra, lion, oryx, eland and other plains game, crocodile and small mammals like mongoose, hyrax, dikdik and the nocturnal porcupine. There are over 600 species of bird life in this area.

Day 5

Tsavo Chyulu Hills Fly to Laikipia Plateau Borana Game Sanctuary
Today after breakfast you have an option of taking a morning game drive or nature walk. Then depart Tsavo by a private charter plane to Borana Ranch (private game sanctuary) in the Laikipia plateau northern part of Kenya. En route you’ll have impressive views of Mt. Kenya (weather permitting). Set on 35,000 rolling acres, the lodge has a “country house” atmosphere. Your luxury cottage has its own fireplace, that is lit for you each evening as it starts to get chilly. Meals are served in the stair-top dining room.

Game viewing on the ranch is excellent. Here you will find most of the animals found in the north of the equator in Kenya. These northern “specialties” include gerenuk, Beisa oryx, Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Gunther’s dik dik and the Somali ostrich. Near the ranch is the sergoi Rhino sanctuary with a population of nearly 40 black and white rhino. Day and night viewing is by 4WD vehicles.
For the next three days on safari you will have the opportunity, along with game drives, to enjoy horseback riding amongst the wildlife, take a guided walking safari and take a swim.

Day 8

Laikipia Plateau Maasai Mara Game Reserve
Today you depart by charter flight to Nanyuki airstrip (only 20 minutes) where you will connect with the scheduled flight to the famous Maasai Mara National Reserve (1 hour flight). We saved the best for last…a grand finale to your safari, the Maasai Mara is a jewel of Kenya’s game parks, located in the Northern section of the great Serengeti plains. The reserve is the home of the “big fives”…elephants, lion, leopard, buffalo and rhino, as well as cheetah, zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, hippo, impala, gazelle and hundreds of species of birds.

After checking in and enjoying a gourmet lunch, you’ll have some time to explore the camp and relax before departing on an afternoon game drive in search of the big five. The low afternoon light is perfect for photographing the beautiful rolling plains of the Maasai Mara. In the early evening as you make your way back to camp, you may get lucky and spot a leopard on the prowl. As the sun starts to set you’ll return to your camp for sundowners around the fire and dinner.

Your home for the next three nights will be at Il Moran Camp, one of the Mara’s newest luxury bush camps. Hidden under ancient trees on the banks of the Mara River, each of the 10 enormous luxury tents is furnished with king-sized beds and furniture, homemade from wild olive trees, huge en suite bathrooms with flush toilets and double showers with plenty of hot water. Every tent also has a large verandah where you can enjoy a romantic candlelit dinner. During the day meals are served under a canopy of trees and their cordon-bleu dinners by candlelit are unforgettable experience.

Days 9 & 10

Maasai Mara Game Reserve
You will be awakened before dawn for a cup of tea or coffee then set out at sunrise on an early morning game drive. The Mara is magical in the morning; the birds are always singing, Zebra’s frolic and greet each other, pair of jackals prance through the grass in search of mice or a rabbit, baboons chatter noisily and curious giraffe watch you as they nibble on their breakfast on the acacia leaves. You may even come across lion family feeding together on last nights kill.

After returning to camp for a sumptuous buffet breakfast you will depart with your guide on a mid-morning game drive-this time venturing deeper in to the Mara or you may want to take a picnic lunch so that you can spend the whole day game viewing. Return each late afternoon to camp for sundowners around the fire and dinner.
