Detailed Itinerary

Day 1
Nairobi — Aberdare National Park / Mt. Kenya National Park
Depart Nairobi after breakfast .Our destination today is the Aberdare National Park. We travel overland through plantations of coffee and tea to The Aberdare Country Club, nestled on the slopes of Mweiga Hill. After high tea, set off for the Ark tree lodge, located in the forest on mountain slopes of the Aberdare Mountains at 7,000 feet. This outstanding lodge offers high altitude game viewing, including animals that are rarely encountered elsewhere: giant forest hog, bush pig, tree hyrax, large spotted genet, and the elusive bongo.

Wildlife can be observed from different levels and from outside where you can see, hear and smell everything and inside where you can sit with a cup of tea and stay warm and cozy. You can put in a request to be awakened during the night if your favorite animals show up. A herd of Elephants might be just feet away and if you are lucky, a Leopard or large male Lion might put in an appearance.

Day 2
Forest Tree Lodge — Samburu Game Reserve
This morning we travel by road to Kenya's northern frontier. Wild and rugged, Samburu is fiercely beautiful with its arid savannahs watered by the lovely Uaso Nyiro River. It is also one of Kenya's most protected areas and home to species only found north of the equator, from the reticulated giraffe to Grevy's zebras and Beisa oryxes. We also enjoy Larsens Tented Camp or Samburu Intrepids Camp, our luxurious hostelry set beneath a canopy of acacia trees along the banks of the river.

Day 3 & Day 4
Samburu Game Reserve
Dawn breaks in golden bands as we start our day in the bush by scanning the river from our tent's veranda with a cup of steaming coffee in hand. Before the dew is off the grass, we're off in pursuit of the elephants, lions, leopards, and cheetahs that thrive in the reserve's grasslands and acacia woodlands. And so the 2 days are spent in alternating pursuits of exploration in the bush and relaxation in our cozy camp.

Day 5
Samburu — Lake Nakuru National Park
Depart Samburu after breakfast for Lake Nakuru National Park, arriving at You’re your lodge in time for lunch. In the afternoon a 'Spice' game drive is planned. Besides the flamingos that the lake is famous for, there are approximately 400 other species of birds visiting the lake. In addition, a large variety of game can be found in the Park including the introduced Rothschild's Giraffe, Black and White Rhino, Waterbuck, Reedbuck, Lion, Buffalo, Leopard, Baboon and many species of plains game.

Day 6
Lake Nakuru National Park
We spend a splendid morning and afternoon in this incredible Park on game drives. Major attractions in the park include Flamingoes and  other Birds including a variety of terrestrial birds numbering about 450 species in total, Mammals: 56 different species of mammals have been identified including black and white rhinos, Rothschild's giraffes, cape buffaloes, Defassa waterbucks, Thomson's and grant's gazelles, impalas, lions, leopards, warthogs, olive baboons, black backed jackal, reedbucks, dik diks, elands.

 

View-points: Lion hill, Baboon cliff and Out of Africa provide vintage views of Lake Nakuru and the surrounding National Park. Waterfalls: Makalia. Unique vegetation: About 550 different plant species are found in Lake Nakuru National Park.  Lake Nakuru boasts of the largest Euphorbia candelabrum forest in Africa, Picturesque landscape and yellow acacia woodland. Reptiles:  A large number of reptiles inhabit Lake Nakuru including the python and tortoise.

Day 7
Lake Nakuru — Masai Mara Game Reserve
After a leisure breakfast at your lodge, depart overland to the Masai Mara Game Reserve-jewel of Kenya's Game Park. This enormous Reserve actually part of the vast Serengeti plains is famously known for it's spectacular great wildebeest migration and is a true home of the big five —Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Rhino and Cape Buffalo. After lunch, explore the Reserve on a late evening 'Spice' game drive.

Day 8 & Day 9
Explore Masai Mara
The Masai Mara is one of the greatest wildernesses of the world. Morning and afternoon 'Spice' game drives are planned. Large mammals are varied, abundant and easy to see. Residents among the parks mammals are; Masai Giraffe, Buffalo, Impala, Zebra, Topi, both the Thomson's and Grant's Gazelles. Optional hot Air Balloon rides are available on this day at an additional cost. On this final day in the Mara, you also have an opportunity to visit an authentic Maasai village.

Lake Nakuru — Nairobi
